Executive Summary - Latin American Management Program (LAMP)

The Latin American Management Program (LAMP) is a graduate management diploma program focused on the Americas. It caters to professionals of diverse backgrounds who wish to enhance their careers in international management by getting intensive academic training, international work experience and access to an active pan-pacific contact network.

The program consists of a nine-month academic period in Vancouver, Canada, followed by a one-year, full-time, paid international (co-op) work placement

The nine-month academic period in North Vancouver includes management and business skills, regional context and country analyses (i.e. cultural, social, economic, political), language, communications and computer skills training. The program prepares professionals for smooth international integration into the work place and guarantees quick, effective performance at a professional level.

The second part of the program is a one-year international co-op work placement period (in a private sector, non-profit or government organization).

Does your organization need culturally-trained, multilingual, motivated international management professionals?

Employers gain access a talent pool of multilingual, culturally sensitive, skilled and experienced professionals from diverse backgrounds and experience, who have been trained to perform effectively in high-pressure, multi-tasking international teams and entrepreneurial environments.  Managers also gain access to a dynamic "Pan-Pacific" contact network extending from the Americas to the Asia Pacific region.

Employers interested in hiring LAMP professionals are encouraged to follow these steps:

  1. Contact a LAMP Co-op Advisor - let us know you are interested in hiring a LAMP professional.
  2. Analyze your needs, the specific responsibilities and requirements for the position, and the working conditions (including remuneration) that you are willing to offer.
  3. Send us a Job Posting Form (LAMP can provide a template). The posting will be reviewed by a LAMP Co-op Advisor to make sure it meets the program's requirements, and then posted publicly for the LAMP professionals to see.
  4. Interested LAMP professionals will apply directly to you.
  5. Short-list candidates according to your selection criteria.
  6. We can assist you scheduling in-person or telephone interviews with pre-selected candidates.
Once you make a decision, please notify the LAMP program who are your candidates of choice (rank them according to your preference), and send a written letter of offer to each of the selected candidate(s).

Additional Considerations

  • Co-op positions are formed on a first-come-first-served basis. Therefore you should submit your posting as early as possible to ensure the best selection of candidates for your company or organization.
  • LAMP management associates are available to start their co-op placement as of June 1st, 2004. Start date is flexible, but the placement should be one year in length.
  • The assignment must be meaningful to your company or organization's core operations and provide a solid, practical training and learning opportunity for the associate.
  • The associate must be paid a competitive wage by local standards. Compensation may combine salary and in-kind contributions such as housing, transportation or airfare.
  • The employer, together with the associate, applies for necessary visas and work permits. The College provides any documentation or information needed to facilitate the process.
  • As the employer, you will provide a defined supervisor to oversee the associate's work, discuss expectations for the work-term with the associate, give feedback on a regular basis, provide feedback to the visiting co-op advisor and write the end-of-term report.
  • Associates must attend a one-week conference in early 2002 as part of the program. You are asked to grant a leave of absence for this purpose, which should not be considered vacation time.
  • You should expect a work-site visit by a LAMP Co-Op Advisor, and you must establish follow-up procedures to assess the associate's progress and performance.
  • You are asked to notify the program if the associate becomes seriously ill, is involved in an accident, or is not performing the assigned work to satisfaction, as well as any pending or actual change in his or her status of employment
